Plus ca change at Stamford Bridge

I am sure we have been here before. Fantasy football despite crippling injuries. Chelsea sit and admire it all - and then score on the break, playing with great economy.  The sight of Wenger on the touchline shaking his head - as if it is all someone else's fault, is just too familiar.  The sensation of the weekend is Spurs' new Dutch signing.  Why did we spend all summer waiting for a new goalkeeper and top class centre halves ? Were we deluded ? How come we announce record profits and yet it is Spurs who sign the top players ?  And how have the Board managed to keep the two oligarchs at bay ? The needed team investment is in the wings. For how much longer can we fall behind Chelsea (and now Man City ) ?  Much as we love and admire him, it is ironic that it is Wenger himself who stands in the way of progress. He is obsessed with the youth system and his beautiful style of play to such an extent that these things seem to have become more important to him than winning itself. He would rather lose the "right" way than win the "wrong" way. Arsenal will win nothing as long as these absurdly unattainable ideals pervade the club's management.
