The Fabregas move

He will leave of course. It is only a matter of time. And he is a sublime footballer. Cesc is the only player I have ever seen at Arsenal who entertains me in the warm up. He has the perfect running style, the perfect balance, the perfect attitude - until now. What example does his head turning episode set to the other players ? He cannot captain the club with any credibility.

In the 1970s, players had no agents to agitate for a transfer on their behalf. So they would play beneath themselves. It was known as "playing for a transfer". Arsene Wenger is a brilliant man but managing these situations is not his forte. Spoilt young men on 110,000 per week need a firmer hand than Mr Wenger can muster.

My solution would be to hold Fabregas to his contract, sign Ozil, drop Fabregas and let him repent in the reserves for a few weeks. After all, that is where he will be playing for Barcelona since he is behind Xavi and Iniesta for Spain and why should team selection be any different at club level ?

What is required is some discipline. This was the George Graham way. No player is bigger than Arsenal. A contract is a contract. Fabregas must honour it. And as for the annual spanish tapping up exercise, an inducement of a breach of contract can be restrained by injunction. Get tough Wenger and get tough Arsenal.
